A varied after-work ride for anyone who wants to enjoy nature, history, and a cozy spot to stop for refreshments after work. The 25-kilometer tour takes you from Coburg's castle square, past magnificent Art Nouveau buildings, through idyllic forest paths and historic ducal farms to the Old Sheepfold, and back to the castle square. The whole route is perfectly manageable with an e-bike. Along the way, you'll discover Rückert's favorite spots, a tranquil bird sanctuary, and the charm of bygone eras. Cycling together is more fun, so we start with a minimum of four participants.
Want to get out after work? This tour is perfect for that. It starts right at Schlossplatz in Coburg – it's best to come by bike, as parking is difficult. If you're coming from further away: the bus station at Theaterplatz is right next door, or a little further on is Anger.
From there, we set off through a varied mix of asphalt, gravel, and forest paths. Nothing too challenging, but not boring either. With around 240 meters of elevation gain and loss, the route is undulating, including a longer climb near Callenberg with a gradient of about 8 percent. An e-bike makes it considerably more relaxed, but it's not essential.
Along the way, we immerse ourselves in the world of the poet Friedrich Rückert : We visit some of his favorite spots, which still invite visitors to linger today. We also stop at a tranquil bird sanctuary – perfect for a short break – and marvel at 19th-century ducal farms . The grand finale is the Old Sheepfold , where we can stop for refreshments and enjoy a relaxing end to the evening.
The tour is a circular route, takes about three hours (of which approximately 1.5 hours is actual cycling time), and is suitable for families with children aged 12 and up. The route is only partially suitable for child trailers. One more thing: the tour will only take place with a minimum of four participants – so it's best to bring friends or family along!
